Fishing

Every day brings a new adventure on Crooked Pine Lake (Kakabikitchiwan) you can fish for Walleye, Northern, Lake Trout, Crappie, Small & Large Mouth Bass and Muskies. Experience one of our little-known "secret" lakes where we fish strictly catch and realease... bring along a camera because you won't believe the action.

Fishing & Tackle:
You'll need a light weight spinning rig with 6 to 8 lb. test line, a medium action bait casting rod, plus a spare rod and reel. Lots of 1/4 oz. lead jigs are essential for walleyes, tied directly to the line and tipped with a live minnow or plastic grubtail. Little Cleos, #3 and #4 Mepps spinners, chrome-colored rattletraps and rapalas are all good lures for Lake Trout.

In September, we go to using jigging spoons for the trout. 3/8 and 1/4oz. Spinner baits, crank baits and weedless spoons work well for Northern Pike. You're #2 Mepps, torpedo's, various surface baits or jig with grubtail are all good bass baits.

Fishing Licenses:
Fishing licenses are available at the Lodge, plus there are a wide variety of tackles available locally. Ina effort to bring you the finest sport fishing available, we have established our own conservation policy on the number of fish that can be removed from the fly-in lakes we visit. Please join us in supporting live catch and release.

Personal Gear:
Weather is unpredictable at best so dressing in layers is the best plan. You can always take a layer off. Mornings are generally cool throughout the summer, but daytimes temperatures are comfortably warm to sometimes hot, so don't forget your bathing suit. Personal clothing should include long and short-sleeve shirts, a sweatshirt, jeans and shorts, rubber boots or boat shoes, a GOOD rainsuit, plus a brimmed cap. For early spring or fall trips, be sure to include long underwear, gloves, hand and good insulated raingear. Don't forget sunscreen, insect repellent, camera and plenty of film.
